Super superhero

superhero-in-a-boxMy sister is an exceptional gift giver. She has a gift for finding the things that my kids didn’t ask for but wind up loving to pieces.

This time around “Auntie” gave our newly crowned four year-old a superhero in a box costume. It came with a cape that’s easy for him to put on himself, an eye mask and wrist cuffs. He slept in the wrist cuffs with the eye mask on him like a hairband for two nights in a row.

If you have a toddler nephew/niece, son/daughter that loves feeling super, etc.  I highly recommend the superhero in a box from Restoration Hardware.

Thx, Auntie M!

Thank you, Kaiser staff

thank you

I know there are many flaws in our healthcare system. And, I believe there are many improvements along the way so that more Americans can receive healthcare without the fear of being put under financially in order to just be well.

Today, I want to say thank you for what IS working.

My mom has been undergoing chemo treatments for a year and a half now. She’s gone from having twice-monthly treatments to having weekly treatments. From having a drip IV to implanting a PowerPort. And through all this she’s received great care – in the way of smiles, friendly and familiar greetings each week, sincere conversation and respectful concern – from those in charge of facilitating her infusions at Kaiser.

I have gone with my mom for a few infusions and each time I see her comfort level with the people at Kaiser Santa Rosa. Her ability to feel at home in a place that causes her such physical pain. The kindness and easy understanding of one another that is exchanged with each visit. For this, and more specifically for the people of the Kaiser Santa Rosa Infusion Center, I remain reverent for the perfectly balanced respect and compassion they have shown my mom for nearly two years of her life. It’s a good feeling to know that in dark times, there is light in those situations for those that you love.

Spring Roster

Most looking forward to sit down, shut up

My boys are still at Spring Training. No, not my husband and son. My SF Gigantes. So, while that lineup is still being ironed out I’ve nailed down my own proposed roster for Spring  – my mid-season TV lineup. And without further adieu,  here it is: Continue reading ‘Spring Roster’

Deep Thoughts This Tuesday

deep-thoughts     I’ve rediscovered something that brought me so many laughs in high school and college…Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey. I can’t post any here without permission and that seems like too much work. So, I’ll just link to the site here, which offers up a Deep Thought of the Day for every day.

And yes, I promptly laughed my arse off when I saw today’s. So good.

Traveling with Toddlers: My Bag of Tricks

I haven't used this gem YET, but it sure is creative!  I haven’t used this gem YET, but it sure is creative!

While I’m certain there are moms out there that are better, I feel like I’ve gotten pretty good at traveling solo with my kids. So, I thought I’d impart some of the tricks up my sleeve to those that are just getting started.

First off, my kids get car sick, air sick and umm any other kind of sick you can imagine so I always travel with Benadryl Perfect Measure. And yes, Benadryl is normally for allergies but our pediatrician recommended it for my carsick-prone toddlers when they were too little for motion sickness medicine and it works for us. This has kept me from having to pack three changes of clothes every time we travel anywhere.

And, downsizing from 3 spare outfits frees up extra room for all the goodies that keep my supercharged duo occupied and happy. Here’s a snapshot of what our carry-on bags look like… Continue reading ‘Traveling with Toddlers: My Bag of Tricks’
